Volunteers should enjoy interacting with guests of all ages, be courteous, and friendly. We love volunteers who want to pitch in and help, have a professional work ethic, and are reliable.

All volunteer candidates must also pass a background check (paid for by the Museum).

Volunteers are essential to the Museum’s mission and daily operations. We require volunteers to commit to being a contributing member of the volunteer team for one full year and complete a minimum of 12 volunteer shifts within that year.

School tour guide volunteers should lead two tours a month.

Volunteer shifts are anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours long.

Your application will be reviewed by the Volunteer Programs Department. Volunteer positions are filled based on consideration of an applicant’s skills, interests, and availability, paired with the specific needs of the Museum. If we’re a great fit, a staff member will contact you for an interview.

New volunteer orientation: New volunteers first attend an on-site orientation where they will learn about Museum policies and procedures, customer service, safety protocols, as well as the initial training and locations of each volunteer opportunity.

New school tour guide training: Volunteers who would like to become school tour guides will go on to learn directly from educators on the School Programs team. Initial tour guide training is offered several times a year. During training, you’ll be provided with relevant facts and points for each tour stop and learn helpful tips for successfully leading a tour. Before leading their own group of students, new tour guides will also shadow tours led by experienced volunteers and staff. To maintain knowledge and learn about new exhibitions and artifacts, school tour guides are required to attend refresher trainings, typically offered at least twice a year.

Training for some volunteer shifts is provided on the first day of the assignment. There are also ongoing learning opportunities for new exhibits and artifact updates, and information is always posted online for easy volunteer access.

Yes! With volunteer opportunities every day of the week, we make it easy for those who work full-time to support the Museum. Full-time workers should commit to volunteering for one year and complete a minimum of 12 volunteer shifts within that year.

We currently accept volunteer applications from those 18 years of age and older.

At this time, the Museum does not offer volunteer opportunities at Historic RCA Studio B.

We welcome volunteer applications from those who live outside of the immediate Nashville or Tennessee area, in fact some of our volunteers live in Georgia and Kentucky. Those who live outside of the immediate Nashville or Tennessee area should commit to volunteering for one year and complete a minimum of 12 volunteer shifts within that year.

If a volunteer needs to resign, please notify the volunteer programs manager. Arrangements will be made for the departing volunteer to return their volunteer vest and name badge.
